When I was reading Jer 8:1-3   Where the Lord resurrects the dead for destruction at his coming which are those who worshiped the sun, moon, star which they followed and consulted.   He says these will be raised to condemnation  Jer 8:20 

Somehow all the verses I read in the bible even though the word light is use in translation, this is not what the Lord desires from us, but says plainly those who worship him in this way will be destroyed.

In Jer 8:4  God says to Jeremiah to say to these whose bones are of them who have done these things  because of the lying pen of the scribes (Jer 8:8-9) have handled it falsely, those who have the Law.

Our Lord has just said in these verses that the Jews who teach worship of God through the sun, moon and stars, who are called the Scribes and they have the Law are lying scribes.

For centuries  the Christian Protestant teachers have trusted in the translations of the Scribes for the Hebrew writings in the bible. Their teaching of the worship of sun is tied into the worship of the Lord and has been taking the Christians purposely away from truth.

the word light would better be translated "enlightenment"

James 1:17  Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

a good verse that gives description of God is  Habakkuk 3:4

His splendor was like the sunrise;  rays flashed from HIS HANDS where HIS POWER WAS HIDDEN.  Plague went before Him; Pestilence followed his steps  He STOOD AND SHOOK THE EARTH,  HE LOOKED AND MADE THE NATIONS TREMBLE. 

God is not the Sun, but the analogy of  the Sun is used because of it's brightness, fire and has been the object used to describe the Lord in the bible, though, the lying hand of the Scribes who exist today in Judah, have sun worship to God and it has become infiltrated into our teachings of God.  Then we have the proof of Jesus coming in the flesh, and the Jews could not explain this how  could God come in the flesh, born of a virgin. 

When God is referred to as Light in the bible here is the  greek word and the Hebrew word which one must remember  all definitions are man inspired by what they understand and this won't do as much as the direct verses in the bible to give us enlightenment.

From an obsolete phao (to shine or make manifest, especially by rays, cf 5316, 5346); TDNT 9:310; TDNTA 1293; GK 5890; 70 occurrences; AV translates as “light” 68 times, and “fire” twice.  1 light. 1a the light. 1a1 emitted by a lamp. 1a2 a heavenly light such as surrounds angels when they appear on earth. 1b anything emitting light. 1b1 a star. 1b2 fire because it is light and sheds light. 1b3 a lamp or torch. 1c light, i.e brightness. 1c1 of a lamp. 2 metaph. 2a God is light because light has the extremely delicate, subtle, pure, brilliant quality. 2b of truth and its knowledge, together with the spiritual purity associated with it. 2c that which is exposed to the view of all, openly, publicly. 2d reason, mind. 2d1 the power of understanding esp. moral and spiritual truth.

2a make an assumption that God is light "because" light has the extremely delicate subtle pure quality... god is pure in thought, not pure in brightness as these leads us to assume.   I like the Logos bible software I use, but they are of the Sunworship God in their understanding because they use the teachings that come from the Scribes handed down to us....we have been lied to by the Scribes, the bible says we have and we need to understand this is true and we need to come out of this teaching and worship the Lord who made the Sun , the star, the moon and earth and us. 

If you believe the Lord made the sun then you know the sun is not God.  And He sent his son Jesus in the flesh.

I may not have written clearly.  I agree, we are not to worship the sun.  That isn't what I was trying to say.

And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: He made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

Rather it is to see the spiritual teaching in the above passage...not to worship the literal sun...but to see what the sun, moon and stars represent.  It is fascinating to see the examples given.
