2 Peter 2:2 KJV
And many shall follow their pernicious ways;
by reason of whom the way of truth shall be
evil spoken of.

Pernicious is not a soft lightly sprinkled word.  It is used in halls of judgement of life or death. Pernicious means 'violent death.'   Saddam Hussein's troops were following pernicious ways when they gassed the Kurds.
A man driving a car doing 90 MPH just before he hits the wall is following a pernicious way.
Getting a speeding ticket while in a hurry to pick up your son from school to get him to baseball practice and then you have to go shopping and then cook and. . . that is not following a pernicious way.
Pernicious is not a word that can be used when simply talking of following somebody.  That is the problem with today.  Paul said, 'Follow me because I follow Christ.'  That's in one ear.  In the other ear is, 'What would Jesus do?'  That causes a psychologically pulling paradox.
