Elijah and the Dreadful Day
« on: July 06, 2010, 05:35:26 pm »
Malachi 4:5-6 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

Please consider that....Elijah is already here and has been for some time....

  • Matthew 17:12  But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.

Matthew 11:13-15 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

On the mount of Transfiguration, standing with Christ, who is The Word, was Moses and Elijah/Elias...representing the prophets and the law contained in The Word. The "Elijah the prophet" sent before the dreadful day is found in...the two witnesses that testify of The Word, the law and the prophets.

As stated above....if ye will receive it....Elias is all the prophets and the law. He is here now in the witnesses as we testify and that testimony turns the hearts of the children to their respective Father or father.

On another forum this same thread had the following reply.  I show it here as it goes a bit deeper into the explanation but it also shows why I use the King James and not the new and improved versions.  Just a little, tiny change in words can cause a HUGE change in meaning.....

Hi whirlwind

To me these verses are speaking of John the baptist.

Matthew 17
11Jesus replied, "To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things. 12But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands." 13Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist.

It's written differently in the King James and the difference, although small, is vital to understanding....

  • King James
Matthew 17:10-13 And His disciples asked Him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. Then the disciples understood that He spake unto them of John the Baptist.

The Elias the scribes wrote of is "that Elias," the Elias that already came and that Elias was John the Baptist. There are going to be more Elias's just as John the Baptist was that one. That is why that passage tells us "Elias truly shall first come" and then tells us "that Elias is come already."

Matthew 11
11I tell you the truth: Among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it. 13For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John. 14And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come. 15He who has ears, let him hear.

  • King James
Matthew 11:11-14 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.

Reading it without verse separations, as was originally written, we get a clearer picture. All the prophets and all the law was prophesied up until the time of John. The prophets and law are Elias or the prophets and law IS ELIAS which was to come.

John the Baptist was a shadow, a type, of Elias but there are more. The next ones (for there are many) come before "the great and dreadful day of the Lord." That's future.

I don't see the spirit of Elijah with the church, but I do see the Holy Spirit

Elijah is "the law and the prophets." He is the written word. The Holy Spirit indwells us and reveals the meaning of the written Word.

  • John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

What He has "said unto you" is written...written in the law and prophets/Elijah. The Holy Spirit teaches us the spiritual meaning.....

  • 1 Corinthians 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
