Proverbs 30
« on: January 26, 2012, 04:52:04 am »
I thought it would be interesting to look at the first verse of this chapter, the meaning of the names always seem to give new meaning to the verses and chapters,

The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, [even] the prophecy: the man spake unto Ithiel, even unto Ithiel and Ucal,

The words of Agur, this name means "gathered" it comes from a root word that means "to gather or collect" as in harvest..like reaping or gathering what you sow..

the son of Jakeh, this name means "blameless" in the sense of pious..

The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, [even] the prophesy:< 'prophesy  huh

the man spake unto Ithiel, this name means "God is with me"

even unto Ithiel and Ucal, this name means "devoured", it comes from a root word that means "to eat"

So what do we have? The pious' words are gathered in the reaping of the harvest <that is prophesy

the man that speaks these words to the one that has God with them and to one that eats the words..<teaching and what? you can't teach the one that has God with them, most is you could speak against them? accuse them?

Every word of God [is] pure: he [is] a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:

Lest I be full, and deny [thee], and say, Who [is] the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God [in vain].

Accuse not a servant unto his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be found guilty.

[There is] a generation [that are] pure in their own eyes, and [yet] is not washed from their filthiness.

I posted this in the e-f prophey forum:

Agur is one of Solomon's fancy names.  It means 'gathered,' but also 'gathered among the sages.'  Jakeh means 'obedience' and was a symbolic name of Solomon.  Ithiel means 'God has arrived.'  Ucal means 'devoured' in the sense of being filled.  And the word 'prophesy' means like a tale of doom and recovery or like taking a burden off of you.  Solomon is asking God to take some of this stuff away!

Solomon is telling God, 'Man, I didn't go to school for this stuff.  I don't even know what's going on here.  Tell me, if you will, who created heaven and hell?  Who is holding my spirit in his hands?  Who made the cover for the water?  Who made all this?  How did I get in this position and how do I make it better?'
'Everything you tell me makes me better and you have been a protector of me.  I don't want to add to what you say because I don't want you to be mad with me and call me a liar.'
'I only want you to do two  things before I die.   Take all this useless stuff and all of this stuff that doesn't do anything that defines a man's wealth and give me some good food.'
'I don't want to eat so much so as to become too satisfied and deny you nor do I want to have so little to have to steal to get what I need and ruin your reputation.'
'Don't tattle on a worker to his boss to make the worker curse you and you be found doing the same thing.'  [?very wise, but out of place]
'At that house over there now, they despise their father and don't even thank their mother.  Those people in the next house think they are just so clean yet they don't even take a bath.  The next ones are so conceited and arrogant.'
'The next people will say anything and take everything from anybody.  And that sucker over there has two daughters that are always wanting something.  'Give me, give me, give me,' they say.  Two, three, four . . . They never have enough.'
'The grave won't be enough.  They're like barren wombs and earth that is not soaking up the water.  Or fire that just consumes.'

Enough for now.   cz035

Brother, I believe I like the way you explain things!  grin  After reading yours I realized something about myself that I try to ignore and that is I have negative issues with the titles of righteous and pious..they represent an aspect of character and way of thinking that I truly hate to find in myself! Desire of appearances, "got to keep that fake image going!"  The reason I noticed it was in the different meanings we used for the name Jakeh...I picked the word "pious" to describe the meaning..then I asked myself what meaning I put to that word...a very negative one indeed! For I would have to admit that if I ever used it to describe myself or another then it would be done to say something very demeaning and distasteful..which I don't think I have ever used that word pious even against myself.. righteous is also a word I would use to belittle the character of another, in my heart I would only use it to be saying something negative! For what most people define and use the word righteous in describing something positive I find I chose other words for that description such as devoted and passionate in their goals, honest..but I never use righteous..

huh Geez..I'm such a judgmental person!  cz047...Oh well, at least I had a moment of seeing through my own blindness, I'm sure "this too will pass" and I will get over the disappointment in myself and forget all about it...my mind will cover it over and have me blind to it again! Just I like I never saw it to begin with!  :P  It will conjure that fake image of me again!    :lipssealed:  Ssssh! Don't say the word!
