The power of "words"
« on: February 10, 2012, 08:06:50 pm »
I was reading an article today that implied there could be certain words that held no power. To me this is a baffling thought because I can found nothing else as powerful and more influential to our understandings than the words we use and what definitions we give to those words. Even when someone can not speak they can learn sign language, signs with the hands and fingers that become their words..

We use words as a tool in a model to organize our thoughts and a method to try and express our understandings of what we are experiencing or not experincing in this world. I'm left to wonder if I would be able to know my thoughts without having words or signs to express them? I think I would have to consider what I am trying to express and define when I say "know" in order to answer that question, for I have baffled myself all the more with the rise of the question, "Is it not the "knowing" that causes me to search and find words to express it?"

Quote
As scientists uncover the power of words to effect behavioral change, the power of rhetoric has become a topic of the current election.

I once read that a word is like a living organism, capable of growing, changing, spreading, and influencing the world in many ways, directly and indirectly through others. I never thought about a word being 'alive' but then I thought of words spoken 3,000 years ago, written down and passed through many generations, and they seem quite alive when read or spoken today, having lived 3,000 years. As I ponder the power of the word to incite and divide, to calm and connect, or to create and effect change, I am ever more cautious in what I say and how I listen to the words around me.

The Lord continues to teach me in this area.  And go back to the tower of Babel.  The Lord took away united speech.  We are also promised that in the end one pure language will be given back.

Makes me think how very often we don't actually listen or hear others.  We hear them but it is filtered by our own experiences.  It is actually very hard to completely set oneself aside and just listen to another.

What is the study of united thought power called?  There are actually institutes set up to explore getting people to think the same thing at the same time and measure how it effects reality...

Fascinating!!!

huh Wow! I just got this thought when I read your response...what could that one pure language be? Is it like saying we will all speak one language like English or Spanish? I don't think it is..I think it is going to be a language of "understanding" a spiritual language, a language (knowing) that comes from one source..It's like your finding God even in a pagan holiday like Christmas and realizing God is everyday...He is every language..the "Word"

WOW! Sis, I have been grappling with this! I have been relucant to speak and share that I can see God in all religions and beliefs I have looked into, I see God in everyone, I hear God speak through everyone rather they hear it or not, know it or not..We are all connected to God, one source, one "Word"...The Word that we try so hard to describe with all these other words..

Buddism, Hindism, you name it and I can find Him there...even in what we would like to call "pagan" I can find Him there..God all in all..One word spoken in millions of words..

I totally can't explain this one....don't have the words to express it.

But you hit it exact.  The Lord gave me the most moving experience once at a REALLY hard time...but He let me understand completely for a while how He IS in everything.  Every space every everything. And even beyond all of this...

It was amazing!!  And rather overwhelming!!!

You got it.  The words used are different but look at all the ancient cultures who include the same stories...the flood, the battle of good vs evil, etc!

Interesting too...I watched a show on History not too long ago on some wacky group (associated with the GA guide stones) and it struck me how many groups from throughout history have warnings for this age we live in.  Most not as the "end of the world" but as the end of a cycle.  And what we as humanity choose will determine what comes next...

Surely one of those choices has to be to remove the divisions....and actually function as a family working together....

just saying...

I think I know the one your talking about. What is so awe inspiring to me is that I can see this happening all around me! Everywhere! brother gregg says it's a paradiam shift, a change! And I don't care what other's say about these "new age" thinkers, I do see how they are hitting on more truth than any religious organization ever has...I'm sick of all the nay sayers bashing the new agers instead of actually hitting the book and asking if they know something we don't..I am awe-r'whelmed with being able to tie in their concepts and understanding in with what the Lord has given us in the bible..[/size]

Amen to that!!!

And a paradigm shift is exactly what is needed!  OMG if the Lord left us to ourselves we would destroy each other and all we need to live anyway!!

LOL and sorry wasn't even worried about correct spelling on paradiam!!

TOTALLY agree with what you said!  Sis I bet you don't even understand how true that is...then again perhaps you actually do.

Instead of nay-saying and slamming...just take all and go to the Lord with it and let Him teach us to understand!!!
